About us
HOWL is a vocal ensemble from the UK. Hailing from a range of diverse musical backgrounds from opera to folk, they are brought together through their love of complex, lush, haunting and often absurd vocal music.
HOWL performs original compositions alongside arrangements of folk songs from the British Isles, contrapuntal music from Venezuela, choral works by Caroline Shaw and pieces by experimental composers Meredith Monk and Moondog, weaving in soundscapes and field recordings. They have released two EPs on Tardigrade Records. Their debut was produced by Cosmo Sheldrake in 2022 and in 2024 they released their second, ‘Night Creatures’, which was a collaboration with the nature writer Robert Macfarlane. They are currently working on their debut album.
They feature prominently on Cosmo Sheldrake’s 2024 album Eye To The Ear, lending their distinctive vocal textures throughout, and also perform regularly with him as part of his live band. They have also worked with other artists such as Jessie Buckley and Bernard Butler, Johnny Flynn, Mr Jukes and Barney Artist and Josephine Foster. Please get in touch for commissions and backing vocals.
HOWL is Kate Huggett, Elly Condron, Natty Pela, Rose Stachniewska, Lydia Samuels, Rosalie Warner, Clay Slade, Helen Potter and Heloise Tunstall-Behrens.
